Is passion, purpose and vision enough to start a successful company? Let’s talk about what else helps.

Is passion, purpose and vision enough to start a successful company?

Your passion is what truly excites you.

Your purpose is how you share this with the world.

Your vision is the driving force behind both that helps you show up consistently to get your ideas into the hands of those who will benefit from it the most.

So when your passion, purpose and vision is clear it naturally extends to specific plans of immediate action and the next step might be to launch your own company. Right?

But before you launch into profit planning, website nuts and bolts, list-building, communications, marketing and creating products & services, consider that these things are not the sole determinants of success.

If they were, every who works on their ideas 24-7 would be a success.

But 80% of startups fail within 18 months [according to Bloomberg], so clarity about your passion, purpose and vision, hard work and the best business strategies don’t determine the success of your company.

So what does?!

#1: Empowering beliefs

#2: Radical self love + self acceptance

#3: Living your perfect lifestyle. Now!

Let’s get into it!

#1: Empowering beliefs

Our beliefs determine what is possible for us. They determine how easily and fast we can grow and achieve all our business goals, how much we invest in our business, the level of risk we’re willing to take to bring our ideas to life, and how we market and sell them.

They also determine how we show up personally, how we approach our work, and the degree of success possible for us.

So if our beliefs aren’t positive and supportive we hit limits in our life and work, something that Guy Hendricks calls ‘the upper limit problem’ in his book The Big Leap.

So how do we transform our limiting beliefs into beliefs that support and accelerate our business? First of all we need to determine what our limiting beliefs are. So what are your beliefs around money and success?

e.g.

  1. I need to work really hard to succeed, or…
  2. Money doesn’t grow on trees [I.e. It’s hard to earn, doesn’t come to me easily]

These are both beliefs about how the world works and translate into what we believe is possible for us. Not reality, merely a perception of what is true and real.

But since thoughts become things, if these are your beliefs, this is what you’ll experience. If you believe that business is hard work and you must work hard to earn money, then it will be.

So make a note about all your negative beliefs about money and success and your ability to achieve them easily. Aim for 5-10 to start with, more if you can. Dig deep and write them all down!

Then flip them to create positive affirmations.

e.g.

I need to work really hard to succeed becomes… I love sharing my ideas with the world in a sustainable and profitable way.

Money doesn’t grow on trees becomes… Money comes to me easily and effortlessly right now and all the time.

And then start using these affirmations first thing in the morning and last thing to reset your thinking. Write them out, learn them by heart, and repeat, repeat, repeat!

#2: Radical self love + self acceptance

Because our ability to create game-changing offers that eliminate the competition, carve out new markets and leave the world a little better than we found it is inextricably linked to our self worth.

Because when we believe in what we have to offer we are more truthful with our expression and communication and this finds its way into our branding, communications, products & services and marketing, resulting in effortless differentiation.

Similar to our beliefs about money and success we’ve come to an idea about our worth. Self worth is 100% of how we show up for life and work. And it’s really powerful.

If you’re self worth is low, you end up going through the motions. You do the business stuff — the tactical strategies — but without the underlying belief that your products & services are incredible, game changing, revolutionary, valuable.

It means your offers will lack conviction and it will literally repel your audience.

But if your self worth is high, your offers will be infused with the same high value and your audience will sense this, too.

This is why some people, products and brands are magnetic. They are have high self worth at the core of their creation.

So how radically do you love & accept yourself?

How highly to do value yourself and your contribution? How do you feel when you say out loud:

I love and accept myself deeply and completely.

I have brilliant gifts and talents to share with the world.

I am ready to shine.

Do they feel true?

Do they jar?

Do you feel icky when you say them, or…

… does your body reverberate with a HELL YES?

How true do they it feel on a scale of 1-10?

If it’s anything under a 7, all you have to do it ‘tap’. You can find a zillion videos about tapping on youtube but you can start instantly by repeating the phrase out loud while tapping on the karate chop point of your left hand: ‘I love and accept myself deeply and completely,’  This is a way of programming new beliefs into your conscious and subconscious minds.

Our ability to practice radical self love and acceptance is critical for personal and business success. We can be more unique in our branding, communications, marketing and offers.

#3: Living your perfect lifestyle. Now!

Our ability to live and work on our own terms, follow idea after idea, create iteration after iteration, project after project and business after business over the course of our life’s work is determined by our ability to live life now.

Even though we follow our own ideas in the hope it will create more freedom for us, we inevitably end up working 24-7 when we first start up.

I did it, we all do it, and many of us myself included experience burnout very quickly.

And it’s because of how little attention we pay to the life part of work-life balance.

You don’t have to separate your life & work when you love what you do, but you still need to consider all 14 other areas of your life while you’re starting up.

Things like your body, your health, your relationships, all need attention and an investment of your time and energy, too. When you feel pay attention to your entire life and lifestyle you’re happier.

When we’re happy we can work faster and maintain a more consistent, high quality of output than when we’re less happy.

Working more is never the solution to creating more; working HAPPY & healthy is the formula for creating quality products and services!

How do you create your perfect lifestyle?

Here are some questions to help you figure it out.

  • What do you want your day to look like?
  • What do you want your morning to look like?
  • What are the things you love to do every single day?
  • What do you want to make time for in your weekly schedule?
  • What do you want to do in your evenings?
  • What do you want to do on your weekends?
  • How many hours/ days do you want to work every week? Which days of the week do you want to work?
  • How spacious does your calendar look?

And then plan your schedule around your answers.

You don’t need to worry about working LESS> Just think about living MORE and planning that into your schedule.

You’ll have more energy to invest into your ideas, you’ll show up more consistently – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually — and starting up will feel happier and more joyful despite the obvious and expected business challenges that all businesses face.

So there you go, the 3 factors that help you start a successful company.

#1: Empowering beliefs

#2: Radical self love + self acceptance
